Over the last 10 years of being a Winnipeg personal trainer, the number one reason people hire me is to lose weight. Weight loss is one of those things that some people seem to get right off the hop, there are others that seem to never really get it and then the rest seem to fall somewhere in the middle, in that they eventually through trial and error figure out what works and what doesn’t. So let’s look at some reasons why people fail to lose weight:
Bad/conflicting/too much information. With the internet a person is easily able to “Google” “how to lose weight” or “how to lose weight fast” or many of the other phrases associated with weight loss. The searches will come up with a bunch of different articles or methods on the best way for weight loss. Remember this…Google does not know everything. A lot of those top searches are actually made up by internet marketers and not actual trainers or anyone who would know anything about weight loss. What these marketers do know how to do though is manipulate Google to get the top spots, then they are also experts at selling you whatever they want. This is a very lucrative market so it is no surprise that they would dominate it. To actually know who to listen to you have to have to know the insiders in the industry and who knows what they are talking about.
The arm chair weight loss expert. This person knows all the latest diets, break-down of foods, latest research papers, apps, you name it they know it or have it But when it comes down to it they don’t do any of it. They either don’t follow the right training program or they don’t follow the diet, meanwhile they will talk about every theory why they can’t lose weight. These people have tons of excuses too. Newsflash: All the knowledge in the world is not going to help if you don’t actually apply it.
The excuser: This person will have every excuse in the book about why they cannot train or stick to the diet. I have heard it all- no time, stress, too tired, blah, blah, blah…once the excuses start flying out I automatically know it’s a bunch of bull crap and tune out. It’s understood that every once in a while something comes up I get it, what doesn’t fly though is a person saying they want to lose weight but find every excuse not to. Irritating as hell.
The work hard/bad program client: I feel sorry for these people. They have all the best intentions and follow their weight loss program religiously. They also work their butts off in the gym and with their diet. The only problem with them is that they are following a bad program and will not get the results they are looking for
DO NOT BE ONE OF THESE PEOPLE!
Now here is a very simple solution as to why people cannot lose weight:
- They are not training hard anough and/or
- Their diet sucks
Simple and to the point. If you find that your weight loss program is not working then you need to fix these to problems.
