How Much Are You Willing To Sacrifice?

Over the years, I have seen a lot of people lose weight.  I have also seen a lot of people not lose weight.  First of all a person has to realize that if you want to lose a significant amount of weight then you are going to have to make some sacrifices.  What do I mean by that?  Well in the simplest way I can think of is that you may always not get to do what you want.

What I always tell my clients that want to lose weight is to go hard, get it done, then go into maintenance mode.  Maintenance mode is relatively easy and a person can be pretty lax with the diet and training program without gaining any of the weight back.  But, you must lose the weight first and this is best done if you do everything 100% by the book.

Everyone wants to look good and have that perfect beach body year round, but not everyone is willing to make the sacrifices to get there.  People are still looking for magic weight loss pills, fad diets and fancy exercise machines that will get them to their goal with the smallest amount of time and effort possible.  Understand this: people that have those rock hard beach bodies put in a lot of effort to look that way 24/7.  Between the diet and exercise program everything is perfect and it reflects in the way they look.

So let’s talk a little more about sacrifices and what how the 2 different types of people will respond to certain situations.  The 2 groups of people will be the ones who will lose the weight and the ones who will not.

So let’s say it is Friday night.  Everyone is going out.  Both people know that they have to go to the gym the next morning and they both know that if they go out, they will more than likely drink and blow their diet as well.  This will pretty much undo all the hard work they did all week.  Sure they would both like to go out bad as they will know that it will be a blast.

So the person who will not lose the weight will have the mindset of- “whatever, I will go out and watch what I eat and drink and I will go to the gym tomorrow.  It won’t be that bad.”  Sure enough they go out and end up eating and drinking more than they thought they would have and miss the workout the next day.  They think to themselves, “I will start fresh next week, no messing around!”  Of course this happens every week and nothing really changes.  What are the chances of this person losing weight?  Pretty close to zero.

Now the successful person will look at it like this:  “I am on a good roll with the diet and exercise program and I feel good.  I do not want to put myself in the position of possibly going off of it.  Even though I would like to go I will just stay in and go to the gym tomorrow.  There will be a lot of time for that kind of stuff when I reach my goal.”   What are the chances of this person losing the weight?  Very good.

Another example would be the person who wakes up extra early instead of sleeping in to make all of their meals and making sure they have the right breakfast.  Sure they would love to get that extra hour of sleep, but they know if they don’t get their meals in order then it’s going to be tough to stick to the diet all day.

I can go on and on all day about various examples of little sacrifices that you will have to make daily to be successful for weight loss.  If you do not plan on making these sacrifices then you are greatly reducing your chances at being successful with weight loss and will definitely have an impact on how fast you lose the weight.

I am very lucky that by the time people come to me for help they are pretty serious and do make the necessary sacrifices to reach their goals.
